Name: Jenni Lillie
Return Path position: Digital Marketing Coordinator on the Brand and Digital team
What did you do in your career before you took a break? For several years, I ran a photography business. Prior to that, I worked in a variety of roles for a non-profit, where I spent four years as a graphic designer.
How long were you out of the workforce? Five years.
What is your return to work position like at Return Path. What do you do each day? I design branded graphics and support the brand and digital team with the Return Path brand assets. I work with a team building the Return Path brand assets and help the different lines of business brand their marketing materials internally and externally.
What skills from your past life do you use in your new position? Primarily, I use my graphic design skills including Adobe Creative Suite on a daily basis. I also use the knowledge and experience of owning a business and working with teams.
What does the Return to Work program mean to you? After working by myself for a number of years, I really appreciate being back in a team environment and working with other people. I appreciate the change in direction (from my photography business) and the fact that I can update my skills. I like the organized structural support Return Path offers its Returnees as we re-enter the corporate world. I enjoy that I can contribute right away and am valued for the work I do. This program feels like a win/win for everyone.
What do you hope to get out of it? My hope is that Return Path will be a good fit and that I will have a future here with the company. I would like to update my skills and experience while also learning new things.
What advice would you give to future Returnees? Don’t be afraid to initiate conversations with people outside of your team and pursue those relationships. Get to know people in a variety of departments and learn about their role at Return Path. Take advantage of the Lunch-n-Learns and networking events. Set goals for yourself and keep a running Google document of all you learn and work on. (This advice came from another Returnee at our first Lunch-n-Learn.)
How did you hear about this program?: I first heard about it on Facebook!
